During the week we began our unit on China. A few friends were able to share their background knowledge of China and had great fun teaching our class words in the Chinese language. They were also able locate and point out China and places they have lived in China on our world map. The students in 1L were very excited to learn about China’s food, language, holidays, landscapes and animals through a Power Point Presentation I created. It was an interactive learning experience, as students were able to sit on the rug with clipboards and record with drawings and sentences something new they learned or a lingering question. The students were thoughtful and asked great questions such as:
We also read the stories The Empty Pot and Sam and the Lucky Money. Students learned about the value of honesty, and generosity while being exposed to elements of the Chinese culture such as emperors from Ancient China and lion dancing during Chinese New year!
We will be continuing to learn about China in the upcoming weeks and I’m sure the students will be excited to share with you at home some new fun facts!
