For weeks we have watched and observed the painted lady lifecycles. We watched as the caterpillars grew bigger. Next we watched them spin webs. Then we watched them hang from the top of the cup and form a j. It was fascinating to see the pupa become a chrysalis. Today we had the opportunity to all sit around a circle and release the butterflies into nature.
The students in 1-L have learned about the characters Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel. The two characters are best friends and love to do everything together. We have read these three chapter books together and loved them. I took the chapters and made them into readers' theatre scripts. Every child in our classroom played the part of a Frog or Toad. We had 11 different scripts from various chapters. Students learned their parts and practiced using good fluency. We learned how to use our voices to use appropriate rate and expression. It was a lot of fun and the students enjoyed performing their Frog and Toad scripts. After practicing for a few weeks we recorded the scripts and I made them into an imovie. We hope you enjoyed watching them at our end of the year Portfolio Celebration.
The boys and girls were amazing! I am so proud of your children for all their dedication and hard work! It was a special event and a wonderful celebration for the end of first grade. Please check our class shutterfly account to view all the photos from the show! The first grade team also included all the photos from the show on the DVD.
