I am working with students to assess their current reading levels.  With 23 students this process takes some time but it is a very special 1-1 time with each student.  While I am meeting with students the rest of the class is working on their reading workshop stations.  After I have assessed all the students we will begin instructional reading groups.  It has been a lot of fun to listen to your children read and talk about the books.

We have been doing an author study with Marc Brown.  1-L listened to the story, Arthur's Family Vacation.  1-L students made text-to-self connections and thought about their favorite family vacation or memory.

First graders created a game for parents to play during our Curriculum Breakfast.  All parents will look at the back bulletin and try to identify their family vacation.

We enjoyed meeting our new computer teacher, Mr. Padula.  We have computer lab time every Wednesday in our classroom.  On Wednesday, students learned how to set up computer lab, turn on their laptops, and some basic skills.

Today 1-L and 1-D learned how to be safe online!

9/22/2014

On Friday, 1-L  learned how to be good, safe digital citizens today. We watched a Disney Movie called Safety Smart with Timon and Pumbaa.  First graders learned to be good digital citizens they use their brains, their hearts, and their feet!

  1. Use your brain!  Do not share any personal information to strangers online
  2. Use your heart!  Think before you make comments or questions online.  You must think about who will read or see what you share online and consider others feelings.
  3. Feet- Remember everything you do online leaves a digital footprint.  Everything you put online is there forever!
