Every Monday, your child will bring home a homework log sheet that will be due back at school the following Monday. Homework consists of both reading and math assignments. A parent or guardian must initial all parts of your child’s log sheet to confirm that he/she completed each assignment.
For reading, the children will have to read, either independently or with an adult, for 15 minutes per day at least 4 days per week. Two of those times must be online using Raz-Kids online books and comprehension questions. Information about Raz-Kids will be sent home on Monday.
Math homework is required at least 2 days per week. One of those times must be online using Xtra Math, online basic math facts practice. Information about Xtra Math will also be sent home on Monday. On the other day, your child can pick between a variety of math activities:
- Math card games or board games you may have at home
- Xtra Math - http://xtramath.org
- Online math games - www.bakerschool.org/research-links/grade-one
- Games on the homework tab of your class website - www.bakerschool.org/first-grade-home
After your child finishes each part of the homework, a parent or guardian needs to initial on the line labeled “Adult’s Initials” to confirm that the child completed that part of the homework. A sample log sheet is attached for your convenience.
