This month we have been focussing on measurement. We started the unit by reading the book, How big is a foot? You can watch it here on youtube. It is a great story about using standard units of measurement. The kids enjoyed watching this movie after they used their own feet to measure things in the classroom. It was fun to use our feet to measure different objects like the teacher's desk, book shelf, tables, rug, etc. After we all measured the objects and compared how long they are we were able to collaborate and discuss why we each had different numbers. We have been using standard units of measurement all year so it didn't surprise me that the kids were able to say, our feet are all different sizes!!! The next day we used tiles to measure the same objects around the classroom. The students worked cooperatively to count the tiles. This week we began to use rulers measuring in inches and centermeters.
