We read Kite Flying by Grace Lin and the first graders had a lot of fun making kites similar to the ones in her story! Don't they look amazing?
The first graders have posted new blog posts. Please check out your child's blog at home.
It is really such a joy to be a Mommy! So many of you ask about Ellie so I thought I'd brag a little and share some photos!
Being a Mommy is more amazing than I ever dreamed. It is so hard to believe but Ellie is almost ONE!. It has been a very busy year for me. The mornings are a challenge to get us ready before school, bring her to daycare, and then come to Baker. I love her little school and the teachers are beyond fabulous. They love her to pieces and I know she is in the best care.
After school we come home and play. It is the best! She is so busy. Everyday she is doing something new. She loves reading books, she is starting to walk holding onto furniture, and she LOVES eating (pasta, salmon, carrots, sweet potatoes, and more). Over vacation she finally started saying Mama! She can also say, Dada, BeBe, Na, and some other sounds.
Her favorite book is still Dada by Jimmy Fallon.

First graders have been updating their blogs. Most recently they posted where their Flat Stanley traveled. Be sure to check it out! This week students posted to their blogs and shared their published small moment stories. Please be sure to view your child's blog make a comment. Your children worked very hard to publish their small moment and they are very proud of their work.
First graders have begun our new writing unit called, opinion writing. First graders are learning to identify which one is the best out of their collections and form opinions. They are able to give lots of reasons to support their opinion. This week students learned how to agree or politely disagree with others. Next week we will be sharing opinions about our favorite books, restaurants, foods, toys, etc. Please help prepare your child by asking What is his or her favorite ___________ and why?
During reading workshop students are working hard during two rounds of centers. During each round Mrs. Lewin meets with a reading group and six students work on reading at the iPad center. At the same time other students have choice to read to someone, listen to reading, work on writing, or read to self. Ask your first grader what the dos at reading today!
