This week we started to learn about our classroom pet turtle, Fenway. Students have been using observation and inquiry skills to ask new questions and learn new information. This past week we began our inquiry unit asking questions and thinking about this focus question: What do you think you know about turtles? We have been learning how to observe and draw like scientists. This week we learned new vocabulary words and labeled pictures of the turtle in our science journals. Using a projector on the screen I showed a picture of Fenway on the big screen. One day we focused on the top of the turtle's shell and the next day we studied the underside of his shell. We looked to observed the shapes we saw and the colors in his shell.
