First graders have been learning how to be scientists. They have been focussing on observing and recording their thinking in their science notebooks. This week we studied a coconut. We used the projector and the in-focus machine to look at the coconut as a whole class on the big screen. Students looked carefully and we noticed the texture, fibers, colors, and size. We talked about using details in our drawing to draw exactly what we saw in our science notebooks. The 1L scientists carefully observed 'mystery seeds'. First graders used a magnifying glass as a tool to get a very close look and see even more details. Every student recorded their observations in their science notebook.
