This month we started our Light and Shadow Unit
Indoor Shadow Tools:
- Shadow Boards
- Manipulatives: blocks, plastic animals, every day materials
We started the unit, activating our background knowledge thinking about what students knew about light and shadows. Together we generated a big list of light sources. For our first investigation, students used their science tools to try to change the size of their shadows. Students worked with science partners to change the size of the shadow using the flashlight. As a class we came together and students shared what they investigated and how they changed the size of their shadows. As a class we had a "science talk" where students sat in a square and listened to each other and shared how they changed the size of their shadow.
